Open contract merely means that your MOS will be assigned according to the needs of the Corps. The needs of the Corps are definitely not the needs of any one particular Gunnery Sergeant and he will have no say in it. Headquarters Marine Corps has all the say and he will likely have no input in the matter whatsoever. Open contract is exactly what is says. You choose to sign a contract that says put me in any MOS you want. The same as signing a contract for a specific MOS. You then take the oath and enter the Delayed Entry Program. I think the recruiter is BSing you. Do not sign a contract or raise your hand and say the oath without getting the job you want.
